The bombastic piece with a legible new typeset, Sergei Prokofiev completed his Piano Concerto No. 3 in 1921. Its successful premiere in Chicago with the composer as soloist helped establish it as one of the defining piano concertos of the twentieth century. Celebrated for its brilliant virtuosity, rhythmic vitality, and lyrical contrasts, the concerto remains Prokofiev's most frequently performed work in the genre and a cornerstone of the modern piano repertoire.
